BDO Australia’s latest Melbourne workplace is located within Collins Place, the landmark mixed-use complex originally conceived by I. M. Pei in collaboration with Bates Smart. The design reinterprets the building’s bold 1970s architectural language through a contemporary lens, balancing formal precision with a strong focus on hospitality, wellbeing, and human experience.

At the heart of the concept is ‘Purity of Geometry’—a disciplined spatial framework derived from the building’s distinctive space-frame roof. Triangular and square geometries are abstracted into ceiling grids, screening elements, joinery details, and rhythmic architectural forms. This structured language brings clarity and cohesion to the workplace, while tactile materials and layered textures introduce warmth and approachability.

Lighting design plays a pivotal role in articulating this geometric narrative. Concealed circular soft luminaire above the ceiling grid with precision, reinforcing the architectural order while providing balanced, glare-controlled illumination.
